[49] hasn't it been a wonderful year?

[filtered from drones, etc, backdated a few hours]

So I have a gift for all of you. I've finally completed my gorgeously constructed letter to our unfortunate new prisoners; I have a stack of copies here, replicated by yours truly, and will generously give one out to anyone who asks. 1767 Beaver Street.

[filtered to Percy Jackson]

I have also completed the two transmitters I promised you. Two days, as promised. Dist the Rose doesn't break his word, after all. The others are up to you.

[Those who happen by his house can find him sitting on a carefully cleared-away spot on the porch, idly flipping through a book. As promised, there's a stack of papers next to him, as well as a medium-sized box.]

Thank you.

[Accepts it and gives it a quick read.]

Hm, not quite what I expected.

[Dist frowns.]

Well what were you expecting?

This is still hard to believe, that's all. But this information is welcomed.

[Okay, that gets him to relax. Dist is a defensive creature.]

It was hard for me to believe too when I first got here ten months ago. I interviewed many people so that the list of events would be as relevant as possible.

Sadly, yes. There were others from my world, but they're gone now. Others have been here over a year; almost two, really.

How do people leave? I assume it's involuntary.

Indeed. For the most part we don't leave; when there's a permanent droning, we believe that the person's mind returns home while the empty body stays here.

Then what about their body back home? Or would the empty body left here simply be a copy of their original one?

The body here is kept as a copy, presumably. Sometimes people come back from being gone for who knows how long, right back into the leftover shell.

It seems pointless to let someone leave and then bring them back.

This whole place is pointless; everything they do to us seems to have no thought behind it at all. I hate to say it, but you do get used to it after a while.

I suppose that's a little bit reassuring.
